The Linguistics Lab at Hoyt

The Linguistics Lab is located in the basement of Hoyt Hall at the University of Wyoming. In the Linguistics Lab, we investigate Spanish language data using different approaches, such as: Corpus Linguistics, Conversation Analysis, and Experiments. 

The lab offers access to various corpora of Spanish and English, a comparative collection of corpora of Romance Languages, and interactional bilingual video data. Access to these corpora is provided using various software tools such as Conc, UAM Tools, ELAN, and R. The lab also provides access to Eprime and Open Sesame for experiments.

In the Linguistics Lab at Hoyt, we see empirical data analysis as the key way to understanding language and, therefore, we embrace usage-based accounts. All faculty and students affiliated with LLH are united by their commitment to rigorous, empirical analyses of language data through different approaches and methods. Correspondingly, the researchers affiliated with our lab conduct research through various methodological frameworks and on a wide range of topics, including language processing, second language acquisition, language variation, language policies and attitudes, language assessment, and linguistic interaction, as affecting the Spanish language. For a list of currently ongoing research projects, check out our Research link above.
